Chapter 3

From the entrance of the cave, go north, around the cave. Two gray oozes will attack you. Kill them to get 550 XP and exit the mines. You will be east of the Carnival. If you think you really need healing you can go back to Nashkel where another head hunter will wait for you. If you are unharmed or still want more adventure go NE (in the same area) and meet Lamalha and her friends. Here you must use all the spells and best weapons, arrows, etc. you have, since it is the first strong enemy party that wants your head. Focus your attack on Lamalha and then at the archer with the fire arrows. Attack them with weapons with small speed factors to disrupt their spells and it would be a good idea to use the Wand of Lightning or Wand of Frost. Meanwhile have your toughest characters in the front, so that they take all the damage. Also don't forget to pause the game (with the spaceber) before making any decisions or giving any orders. With some attention (and some save/load) you will kill them and take totally 3300 XP and Studded Leather +1, Leather +2. Another smart way to win is to equip everyone with ranged weapons and use the "Fog Of War" to win. This means when you see an enemy stop right where you are and shoot him. The others won't attack while they don't see you (an AI bug propably), and you can take them out one-by-one.

After that, you can continue searching or go back to a town. At the eastern part there is a cave/tomb that is guarded by a Ghoul. South to southeast you will meet Hentold who will give you a dagger +2 to return it to where it belongs. This place is some meters east in another cave. In there Revenant will ask you for the dagger with which he was killed. If you deny to give it away, he will attack. Use Protection from Undead, Turn Undead, and magical weapons (normal weapons are ineffective). If you kill him you will get 3000 XP and you will keep the dagger. If you give back the Dagger +2 you get only 900 XP. Also search in the graves and go out. Then continue east. At the SE part you will find Narcillius Harwilliger Neen and will tell you about his "experiment". If you tell him that you are not interested he will leave. If you ask for info and blame him, he will leave and you will have to face 4 Green Slimes (260 XP). If you ask him to teach you the experiment you will have to face him and 2 Mustard Jellies (5400 XP but much more difficult, since Jellies have magic resistance and are killed by magic weapons only) After taking Knave's Robe and his spell scrolls go east. Here Ghasts are a headache if you don't have Protection from Undead. In the graves you will find many goodies and a Wand of Summoning. Keep the Wand since it is precious. This wand makes a wall of monsters and every enemy is forced to hit them to reach you, while you hammer him with arrows. This is the way to fight many difficult combats like the one woth Serevok at the end or if you choose to kill Drizzt (more on that later). Anyway, in there there is also a Chainmail +1. After that return to Nashkel. Give Mulahey's Holy Symbol and Tazok's scroll to Ghastkill and you will get 900 GP and 1000 XP and +1 reputation. Outside the inn Nimbul is waiting to get our head. Kill him and get 650 XP, Boots of Avoidance, Short Sword +1 and a Ring of Infravision. Rest if necessary and then travel to the area east of the Nashkel mines. If you can travel directly, go first to Nashkel mines and the exit to the east.

At the SE part of the map you will meet Hafiz. If you are gentle and tell him the truth he will give you a Protection from Magic scroll. Go south and a Flaming Fist soldier will tell you about the reward for Samuel. If you search also at X=1957 Y=2375 (press L on the keyboard) you will find a Ring of Fire Resistance and two expensive jewels. Now head to the center of the map and you will find the wounded Samuel with Lena. Accept the offer to take him to FAI and if you ask for a reward he will give you a Jade Ring. If you give him to the soldier you will only get 50 GP. So, take him to FAI and you will be awarded with 500 XP and +1 reputation and 3 healing potions. Now exit to the North of FAI.

The Fight With The Ankhegs

This area is thronged with Ankeghs, some giant green worms that pop up from the ground. If you feel that you are week to face such monsters flee and return here when you are stronger. East of the oad you will meet Ajantis, a Lawful Good Paladin, and there are some very easy quests which become difficult due to the Ankhegs. However keep the shell of one of them to make a AC1 (magic armor) at Beregost. The easiest way to kill them is 2-3 archers, 1-2 fighters to prevent them from hitting your archers and spells to make your life easier. Each Ankheg gives 975 exp.

There are three fisherman west who will claim that a Priestess of Bitch Queen Umberlee doesn't leave them to do their work - accept to help them (Detect Evil was negative). East you will find Brun and will tell you about his lost son. North from there talk to Gerde who will ask you to kill 10 Ankeghs. Your award will be 75 GP, no matter how many you kill (unless I don't know how to count). A good place to kill Ankhegs is at thew center of the map. It is pretty difficult, but it is worth the effort. It is better to reload, however, than to lose a character - even temporarily. It would be good to search the area with your thief in Hide in Shadows mode and know where are the Ankhegs, before hitting them. In a room NE you will find a Wand Of Fire. It has very few charges, so don't waste its power on something worthless. Also in there there is Brun Junior's corpse, a Dagger +1, a Chainmail +1 and many potions, scrolls and gold pieces (ie. money). Return the body to Brun and you will take 500 XP. Exit north, to Baldur's Gate bridge. The bridge is closed, so go to the NE corner of the map and there is Tenya. Tell her 3,3 and she will attack. During the fight she will say that the fisherman killed her mother and have stolen the Bowl of Water Elemental Control (Detect Evil was postive though). If you kill her you will take Bracers of Defence AC 7, 650 XP and a Flail +1 and 1000 XP from the fishermen. If you help her (return to the fishermen and take the Bowl) you will have a future wuest in Baldur's Gate and 2500 XP. Before leaving to Beregost, kill an Ankheg north from there and take Nester's Dagger (future quest)

Cheat/Bug: If you kill one of the three fishermen and talk to them before the other become hostile. If everything went well, Biff the Understudy will spawn and play the role of the missing fisherman (see readme.txt in CD1 for more info on him). They will give you the quest and if you kill Tenya and return to them, every time you speak to Biff, he will give you 1000 XP !!! - By Giannis Galanis

At Beregost, talk to Officer Vai at Jovial Juggler -while going there you will find Elminister who will tell you that the bandit camp is somewhere NE- and exchange Bandit Scalps for 50 GP each. Then go to the Smithy and don't sell him the Ankegh shell, tell him to make you an armour for 4000 GP (it will require 10 days).

Now go to Fedelpost's Inn (the innkeeper sells some good weapons) and then go to the first floor to meet Tranzig (before talking to him, move the fighters near so that you attack first). Before dying he will reveal you the location of the Bandit Camp and you will take a Ring of Protection +1, a Wand Of Magic Missiles and 975 XP. Now you can wait in Beregost until the armour is ready or just continue adventuring... I believe that the choice is obvious. Now you can run some errands around Beregost.

Exit to the W of Beregost (at High Hedge). There you will kill a pack of Gnolls and take take Perdue's sword, which you will return to him at Red Sheaf for 500 XP and 50 GP. At this area at the NE Kivan, a Chaotic Good Ranger wants to revenge the Bandit leader, Tazok. At the south-eastern part of the map Permidion Stark will talk to you about Thalantyr and the magic items he has gathered. Enter High Hedge and talk to Thalantyr and take a look yourselves. Also you can try to kill the Golemns (2000 XP each). Exit to the south.

At the NE corner you will meet a chicken, Melicamp. He is training to be a magician who made a mistake and was polymorphed to a chicken. Return to High Hedge and talk to Thalantyr about Melicamp. After a talk, Thalantyr will ask you to find a skeleton's head. You can find it when killing any skeleton (you will find some skeletons just outside High Hedge). When you have it return to High Hedge. Save the game before talking to Thalantyr, as the spell might fail. If Antichickenator spell(!) is successful you will get 2000 XP and +1 rep. Exit south, at the area where you found Melicamp.

At the north-center part of the map you will meet Kissiq and tell you about Melicamp. Near there Zorgal and his Hobgoblin friends will attack. They are not as easy as the Hobgoblins, but they aren't that difficult (just hit the archers first). You will get 990 XP and a +2 Short Sword go to the SE corner and talk with the madman Bassilus with an army of undead mummies and skeletons. If you tell him 1,3,1,2 he will kill all the undead and he will be an easy opponent then (if you want more XP then just say anything else and attack). If you disrupt his spells he will die easily and you will get 975 XP, a +2 Warhammer, Gauntlets of Fumbling (cursed) and his Holy Symbol. After talking to Roger at the SW corner exit South.

Near where you arrive you will meet Torlo at the bay of his house, while at the NE part you will meet the Half Ogres Bjornin (at Beregost) mentioned. East of the lake you should be prepared for a tough fight with an enemy party. Save before attacking and first attack Jemby to disrupt her 'Horror' spell and kill her with ranged weapons before Tenygan reaches you. After that the fight should be easier. Leave Zekar for the end as he is the easiest oponent and won't harm you much. You will get 915 XP and a Mage Robe Of Fire Resistance. At the center of the map you will find Drizzt Do'Urden killing a pack of Gnolls - I wonder why he needs your help. If you talk to him after the fight he will go away and disappear. Exit the area and head to the Temple, East of Beregost.

There has been much arguing about killing Drizzt or not. The guy is carrying a +5 and +3 scimitar and has a Mithil Chain Armour +4. I don't think that you should kill him, since he is a living legend in 'Forgotten Realms' RPGs, but if you choose to do so, fine, its your option but be prepared for a very tough fight (but if you kill him you will also get 12000 XP). You should use summoned monsters to block his way to your party while you attack him with missile weapons. Oh, and don't attempt to kill him before having all your characters at lvl7. Also there are some other methods of killing him less or more difficult. I may post up a page with general tactics and some tips for fighting with some specific enemies. However bear in mind that he appears also in BG2: Shadows Of Amn and he will not be pleased at all if you killed him in BG1 as a BioWare official said.

Enter the Song Of The Morning Temple and give Keldath Ormlyr the Holy Symbol you found at Bassilus corpse (5000 GP and 1000 XP). South from the temple talk to Ashen. East an enemy party will try to steal you - you will kill them easily. If you are searching for XPs the NE corner is a pack of Vampiric Wolves (2000 XP each, but only with magic weapons, like +1 Axe etc.) Then return to Beregost for healing and talk to jornin to take 400 XP, +1 rep. and a Medium Shield +1 (if you haven't pick-pocket it already). Exit to Ulcaster.
